Geotechnical Engineer

Involved in the surveys for the offshore wind farm site and on the route for the export cables to shore

Planning Lawyer

Involved in the early stage development of the offshore and onshore elements of the wind farm to help guide the planning application

Project Manager

Tasked with helping deliver the various project based developments of the wind farm as part of the wider project team

SCADA Technician

Ensures the collection and delivery of the various data streams for sensors and systems which help operate the wind farm

Roles with Wind Turbine Supplier

The job roles listed below relate directly to positions with the offshore wind turbine suppliers which currently would be Siemens Gamesa or Vestas in Scotland.

Cable Jointer

Involves linking up electrical cables to the wind turbines or to offshore substations

Crane Operator

Onshore or offshore crane operations for large scale component marshalling and wind turbine assembly

HSE Adviser

Responsible for all aspects of health and safety during the construction and operations stages of the wind farm

HV Technician

Deals with all aspects of the high voltage electrical systems of the wind farm

Project Manager

Tasked with managing all aspects of the turbine component marshalling, assembly and installation

Roles with the Offshore Wind Supply Chain

Below is a list of roles with the companies that entail the offshore wind supply chain.Some of these roles are the same as those above for Developers or Wind Turbine suppliers as these skill-sets can also be subcontracted to the supply chain. 

CNC Machinist

Common computer controlled systems required for fabrication of precision engineered components in the wind industry

Cable Jointer

Skill set required to join array cables or export cables in offshore and onshore settings

Crane Operator

Onshore or offshore crane operations for large scale component marshalling and wind turbine assembly

Data Scientist

There is an increasing requirement for data analysts and AI specialists in the offshore wind sector

Electrical Engineer

Deals with all the electrical subsystems during the assembly of wind farm components both offshore and onshore
