Our Innovation Spotlight section will showcase new technologies related to mostly floating and deepwater fixed offshore wind. The new Other Deepwater Offshore Wind (ODOW) designation includes new substructure technologies for hybrid and fixed offshore wind that, up until recently, was the domain of floating wind due to water depths of 80m and beyond.
Floating and deepwater wind solutions are still emerging technologies and considerable effort will be required to apply cost reduction through innovation to all phases of its development.
Innovation areas
These headings cover some of the main areas applicable to our showcased technologies.
Floating Substructures
Floating offshore wind platforms come in a verity of designs but most can be classed as a semi-submersible, spar or barge system. In this section we look at which ones are already deployed or are soon to be deployed in Scotland along with the other main contenders in this field.
Other DeepWater Offshore Wind Substructures
A look at some of the new Other Deepwater Offshore Wind (ODOW) and hybrid technologies that are looking to compete with floating wind substructures in water depths beyond 60m.
Mooring and Connection Systems
Substructure mooring systems that have quick release and connect capability including systems with the mooring and electric connections on a single device. These types of device will be enablers for Tow-to-Port strategies for Major Component Replacement.
Anchors and Load Shedding Devices
This section covers innovation in anchor design aimed at simplifying installation and lowering costs. Also includes new devices designed for load reduction and management on mooring systems for floating substructures.
