The huge MarramWind 3GW floating offshore wind project is the latest site in the ScotWind leasing round to submit a Section 36 planning application to the Scottish Government.
ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) has taken the next step in the development of their flagship floating wind project with their planning application which was submitted today. This is a very positive move from SPR given the recent exit of their project partner, Shell, from the project with both parties agreeing to take one project forward from the two that the partners where delivering jointly i.e. MarramWind and CampionWind. Shell subsequently handed back the lease for the 2GW CampionWind project to Crown Estate Scotland.

MarramWind takes the number of ScotWind projects that have applied for planning permission to seven with one, West of Orkney, already granted planning permission. MarrumWind joins four other floating wind projects from the ScotWind leasing round and brings the total capacity of floating wind projects to have applied for planning permission to 9.5GW. Projects in the INTOG leasing round have also submitted planning applications with Green Volt already consented and Cenos awaiting a determination. With the ScotWind and INTOG leasing rounds this brings the total floating wind capacity to have applied for consent to 11.4GW.

In a recent statement on LinkedIn the MarrumWind team put their success of reaching this milestone down to "the hard work of teams across ScottishPower Renewables and our partners, and takes us one step closer to realising our ambitions for this significant floating offshore wind project which could deliver up to 3GW of renewable energy."
