Babcock win Beatrice contract

9 September 2016

Siemens has awarded Babcock a contract to build two offshore transformer modules for SSE's 588MW Beatrice wind farm off the Scottish coast.

Babcock have reported that the transformers, each capable of handling 300MW of capacity, will be delivered by the company's Rosyth yard on the Firth of Forth during the first half of 2018. The deal will involve at least 60 skilled workers.

“The skills and experience our people bring to the energy sector have been recognised by Siemens and that can only be a positive thing for our company, our employees and the long-term future of our Rosyth facility as Babcock continues to build a solid reputation and a significant presence in the offshore energy sector,” Babcock managing director for energy and marine services Ian Donnelly said.
